Mid 20th century Austrian silver and enamel compact, marked 800 for European silver purity. The shell shaped case features a finely hand painted enamel scene of two woman in a pastoral garden setting, one with a lute and the other reclining affectionately besides the other surrounded by a loyal spaniel and vibrant greenery. The turquoise blue border is accented with delicate floral details and framed in ornate gilt silver scrollwork. The interior includes an engraved mirror and a fitted powder compartment with its original pink fabric puff. The back of the compact is ornately engraved with swirling foliate patterns.
