The sculpture features the characteristic female head with elaborate crest and the prominent breast forms associated with the idealized mother figure representing fertility, abundance, and agricultural prosperity. The mask is constructed with four supporting legs and a hollow interior allowing it to be worn over the shoulders during ceremonial dances. The dancer would view through the open cavity beneath while the monumental figure rose above the head. The surface is decorated with extensive incised geometric motifs and retains applied metal elements including a nose ring and metal sheet embellishments secured with small tacks.Condition: Surface wear and abrasions consistent with age and use.
