Framed 19th century engraving titled "The Sailor's Family," engraved by Benjamin Smith after a painting by Ary Scheffer. The print is dated March 1, 1826, and was published in London by S. Knights, Royal Exchange. Rendered in tones of sepia and black, the engraving depicts a scene of a woman and child in a coastal setting, wrapped in heavy garments. The plate is inscribed along the bottom, "A. Scheffer Pinxt / London, Published March 1st 1826, for the Proprietor by S.Knights, Royal Exchange / Benjn. Smith Sculpt." The piece is professionally matted and housed in a wooden frame with gold accents. Includes a Galerie Schoninger sticker on the reverse and a handwritten inscription referring to a Prof. Simon of Munich.
