Large carved green serpentine whale sculpture by Inuit artist Jomie Aipeelee, depicted in an arcing pose and mounted on a matching serpentine base by a wooden peg. The stone features mottled dark-green and yellowing veining with a smooth hand-polished surface. The underside side of the base is signed “Jomie Aipeelee,” and references Cape Dorset/Kinngait, Nunavut. Sculpture is in good condition with minor handling wear. Please see photos for additional details.  ABOUT THE ARTIST: Jomie Aipeelee (1963-2020) was an Inuit sculptor from Iqaluit, known for finely craved muskox, marine mammals, and birds, typically in serpentine.
