Matched pair of early 19th century silhouette portraits depicting a gentleman and a lady in profile, rendered in black against pale tan and green backgrounds. Each silhouette is housed in a gilt oval frame with beaded and foliate molded decoration, set into wooden backs with original hanging rings. The reverse of the lady portrait bears a handwritten inscription “Ann Downs born in Lebanon, Maine August 20 1799 Died August 1890 Married Eben Legro Jan 9 1825.” Both frames show wear, surface toning, and minor imperfections consistent with age.
