From the Rosa Parks Congressional Career Archive.
A cohesive group of original event documents from Rosa Parks’ three-day visit to Providence, Rhode Island, where she was honored as guest of honor at the NAACP Providence Branch Freedom Fund Banquet during the organization’s 75th anniversary year.

The group includes a weekend program titled The Mother of the Civil Rights Movement in America (dated June 28–30, 1984), a detailed multi-day schedule of receptions, youth programming, community rallies, and march events, a standalone reception and tribute agenda, a printed interview recounting Parks’ 1955 Montgomery bus protest in her own words, and a lyric sheet for Lift Every Voice and Sing (“Negro National Anthem”), reflecting the ceremonial and educational framework of the event.

Together, these materials document a coordinated civic and fundraising weekend that brought together civil-rights leadership, clergy, elected officials, and community organizations to honor Rosa Parks not only as a historical figure, but as a living moral authority whose presence anchored contemporary civil-rights organizing and public remembrance in the mid-1980s.
